IACMI’s Michigan Facility

Future Mobility and Vehicles Technology

Michigan is home to the IACMI Scale-Up Research Facility (SuRF). The only facility of its kind in the world, SuRF houses 80,000 square feet of state-of-the-art equipment for automotive innovation.

Equipment + Expertise = Opportunity

U.S. transportation is transforming. The American automotive industry is moving at a rapid pace to meet consumer expectations for reliable performance, attractive design, sustainability, and digital features.

Located in America’s Automotive Capital of Detroit, IACMI SuRF accelerates composites innovation – from lab to full-scale assembly.

IACMI SuRF hosts companies from across the composites and automotive industries, operating in close partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). Their collaboration strengthens and shapes the future of mobility for Michigan and, in turn, the nation’s automotive manufacturing supply chain.

Companies that have engaged with SuRF include Volkswagen, Ford, General Motors, BASF, Dow, Teijin Automotive, and other automotive OEMs and parts suppliers – from multinationals to small- and medium-sized businesses.
