October 1, 2025 – We are pleased to announce additions to IACMI’s technical team and the IACMI Consortium Council: David Snowberg with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Johnathan Goodsell with Purdue University.
Effective immediately, Snowberg serves as both Technical Area Director (TAD) for Energy and the Energy Working Group (WG) co-leader for IACMI. Snowberg and other IACMI members will be exploring multiple forms of energy including geothermal, nuclear, marine, and wind. Fromexploration and resource recovery, power generation and storage to transmission and distribution, how can composites drive efficiency and resiliency across the energy landscape?
On September 30, both Snowberg and Goodsell joined the IACMI Consortium Council as representatives of national labs and academia. The Council, working with the CCS Board of Directors and IACMI staff, approves strategic plans, annual budgets, technical plans, projects, and IACMI management practices.
Snowberg succeeds Derek Berry, who was elected to the council in January 2025 and who served as IACMI’s TAD and WG lead for Wind for 10 years. Berry has accepted a new position at DTU, Technical University of Denmark.
“IACMI is heavily indebted to Derek for his significant contributions and sustained commitment to IACMI over the years,” said IACMI CEO Chad Duty. “Not only has Derek’s deep technical knowledge and decades of experience influenced many of IACMI’s innovations, but his team-oriented approach and interpersonal skills have helped to build and strengthen the IACMI network. We wish him luck in his new endeavors with DTU.”
Snowberg has dedicated his 30-year career as a mechanical engineer in renewable energy. In his 16 years as a senior mechanical engineer with NREL in Golden, Colorado, he has focused on composite materials and processing, composite manufacturing development, structural testing, and the management of many large projects. He also works with the NREL Marine Energy group in the areas of risk management and failure analysis. He earned both a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Engineering Management degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Goodsell has been at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, for 17 years since beginning his doctorate program in aerospace. He now serves as deputy director of the Composites Manufacturing & Simulation Center at Purdue, developing cutting-edge digital twins for composites manufacturing simulation for high-rate and high-performance applications across aerospace, automotive, and other sectors. Goodsell holds a Bachelor of Science from Brigham Young University and a PhD and MBA from Purdue University.
Duty added, “David and Johnathan have been heavily involved with IACMI for years and we are excited to continue working with them in these new roles. They each bring valuable insight and technical expertise in different segments of composites innovation and their respective institutions offer world-class facilities and research capabilities – all of which will greatly benefit IACMI and our member network.”
