Building the Advanced Manufacturing Workforce of Tomorrow

America’s manufacturing future depends on people: innovators, technicians, engineers, and educators who know how to make ideas real. At IACMI, we’re helping them get there.

Our workforce development programs connect education, industry, and opportunity. Whether you’re a student taking your first free online class, a worker advancing your career, or a company building your talent pipeline, IACMI provides hands-on pathways that prepare the next generation to make it in America.

America’s Cutting Edge (ACE)

Accelerating Machine Tool Training and Innovation

ACE is rebuilding America’s machine tool workforce through fast, free, hands-on training that combines online learning with in-person bootcamps.

Led by IACMI and powered by the U.S. Department of Defense’s Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment (IBAS) Program, ACE introduces participants to CNC machining and advanced manufacturing in a modern, accessible way.

  • Free online courses and in-person bootcamps
  • Training in CNC machining, composites, metrology and smart manufacturing
  • National network of regional hubs and partners expanding across the U.S.

Metallurgical Engineering Trades Apprenticeship & Learning (METAL)

Forging the Future of the U.S. Metal Workforce

METAL is addressing critical workforce shortages in casting and forging by connecting students and workers with training, apprenticeships, and credentials in metallurgical engineering and trades.

Led by IACMI with funding from the Department of Defense’s IBAS Program, METAL strengthens and diversifies the U.S. metal manufacturing workforce through industry-led partnerships, stackable credentials, and hands-on learning opportunities.

  • Apprenticeships and credential pathways with foundries and universities
  • Free online and in-person training at hubs across the country
  • National network of employers and training providers aligned by region

K–12 STEM Education: InnoCrate and Beyond

Inspiring the Next Generation of Makers

It starts with curiosity. IACMI’s K–12 programs, including InnoCrate, spark interest in STEM and advanced manufacturing through hands-on activities that bring materials science and composites to life.

From classrooms to community events, these kits and experiences help students see how science, creativity, and engineering come together to shape the world around them — and their future careers.

  • InnoCrate classroom and event kits for hands-on STEM learning
  • Short workshops featuring advanced manufacturing demonstrations and experiences
  • Career awareness programs connecting students with real-world innovators

Together, We’re Reinventing the American Workforce

IACMI’s workforce programs form a continuum — from K–12 inspiration to college and career advancement — designed to prepare learners for high-demand roles in manufacturing.
By working together, educators, employers, and communities are creating new opportunities for people to thrive in an industry that builds our future.

Join us in building the next generation of makers, engineers, and innovators.

SkillCrafters

SkillCrafters is a “Shark Tank” style program to engage and challenge middle and high school students to brainstorm real products using composite materials that can solve challenges they encounter in their daily lives.

Composites at the Forefront: Classroom curriculum designed to challenge students to research advanced composite materials, their processes, and how they impact our world today

Inspiring Innovation: Students are tasked to think like a business by trying to solve a real-world problem with a manufactured composites product

Turnkey System: Teacher guides, instructional videos, and student supplies are all provided for middle and high schoolers

Expertise: Developed through collaboration with multiple manufacturing institutes, including the expertise of Dr. Uday Vaidya

Effective: Since its launch in April 2022, SkillCrafters has reached more than 1,400 students
